Following his statement that the weight of proof should rest with the accusers, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero made it clear on Tuesday that he was not seeking to halt the Senate’s probe into Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo.
Escudero informed Teleradyo Servisyo, “That’s precisely what the Supreme Court is saying; that’s the law as it stands and that has nothing to do with the continuation or non-continuation of the hearing.”
Escudero claims that Sen. Risa Hontiveros and her committee can hold as many hearings as necessary to fully investigate the problems about Guo.
“He can have a hearing until he wants to have a hearing or until he finishes what he wants to get information and knowledge to file a bill that can be used by our compatriots and the country,” Escudero said.
Hontiveros queries the nationality of the POGO-connected Bamban mayor.
The Senate’s Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality has been looking into allegations of criminal activity and human trafficking connected to offshore gambling companies, including some that are purportedly associated with Guo.
In addition, Guo is being looked into for her purportedly questionable past due to rumors that she may be a Chinese “asset” or “spy,” which she has refuted.
