A retired Supreme Court justice declared on Monday that Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s Filipino citizenship is derived from her mother Amelia Leal Guo’s nationality.
According to former Associate Justice Vicente Mendoza, Guo’s mother’s Filipino heritage was sufficient under the 1987 Constitution.
Guo stated that her father was Chinese and her mother was Filipino during Senate hearings.
A person only needs to be born of a Filipino mother to qualify under the 1987 Constitution. Taman na ‘yun. They can’t be elected to the Filipino nationality,” Mendoza said.
That’s sufficient. It’s not necessary to choose to become a Filipino citizen.
Guo said in a statement that her mother, a housekeeper, was pregnant by her father and that as a result, she was their love child.
Both parents do not have birth certificates on file with the Philippine Statistics Authority, according to documents from the Senate investigation.
He continued by saying that it was critical to confirm Guo’s citizenship due to worries about national security.
First of all, how many Filipinos are in the country? Mendoza remarked, “Kasi pwedeng ‘yan ay planted lamang.”
Does her mother have Filipino ancestry? It’s possible that she was just planted. Does she have a mother who is Filipino? Or is she truly a foreigner and has only made an appearance? Was that where her mother was born? It seems that she has no record, so why not?
If there are enough reasons to bring a quo warranto action against Guo, the Office of the Solicitor General is looking into it.
Stephen David, Guo’s attorney, stated that the OSG’s probe will explain the mayor’s office.
To demonstrate that the mayor’s mother is Filipino, he said, the camp would make pictures of her available.
Her mother is Filipino, she just left Mayor Guo
I instructed her to show the pictures of her mother at the upcoming court. The albums contain pictures. She is trying to find it.
According to David, the issue was that Guo hadn’t yet met her mother.
To test her mother’s DNA, we hope she comes forward.
